On 13 March 2023, H.E. Cherdkiat Atthakor, Ambassdor of Thailand to Cambodia, and H.E. Mang Sineth, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, presided over the opening ceremony of the Training Course on Water Rescue for personnel of Preah Sihanouk Province, which is held between 13-17 March 2023 at Queenco Hotel, Preah Sihanouk. Other distinguish participants present at the opening ceremony were Mr. Tang Sochetkresna, Director of Department of Tourism, Preah Sihanouk, Captain Thongchan Bunrathep, RTN, Naval Attaché and Deputy Defence Attaché of the Royal Thai Embassy, G.P. Captain Niwat Intarawichian, M.D., Director of Royal Phnom Penh Hospital, and
Mr. Wirach Surachit, Director Administration Office of
Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi.

 

                        The training is supported and co-organized by Preah Sihanouk Province,
the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, the Royal Thai Navy,
Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi, and Royal Phnom Penh Hospital. The objective of the training is to enhance capacity of lifeguards and relevant personnel of Preah Sihanouk Province and equip them with necessary skills for water rescue both at swimming pools and in ocean or open water areas. The five-day training is conducted by experienced and skillful instructors and supporting team from the Royal Thai Navy and Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi.

                                Preah Sihanouk Province plays an important part in the development of Cambodia with its strategic location and landscape favorable for economic activities and growing tourism connecting coastal provinces of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The water rescue training would ensure safety of tourism in the Province and encourage more incoming local and international tourists, which will greatly benefit Thailand and Cambodia under the established “Two Kingdoms, One Destination” programme between the two countries. Moreover, the well-equipped personnel would help strengthen capacity of provincial personnel for many important international sport events hosted by the Province. The cooperation on the training also highlights the importance of enhancing close collaboration on disaster management, including emergency response operation and disaster relief, at all levels.
